Student safety and academic achievement are two or our top priorities at Hamilton Elementary. Right now, we need assistance from everyone in the area of student safety with regards to student pick-up/drop-off. It is essential that all students are patiently picked up after school in our parking lot. Please refrain from parking on Broadway Street. We need to minimize any exposure to two-way traffic. We also need to drop-off our students in our parking lot in the morning as well. Students walk in front of the school and should not face on-coming traffic in our bus lane. This may cause a little inconvenience for everyone in the morning and afternoon, but I would much rather deal with that then an accident involving one of our students. If you have any questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at school (866)332-3880.
- During the first week of May, we will be working with the Center for Prevention Research and Development at the University of Illinois conducting a statewide survey for all our 6th grade students. The Illinois Youth Survey results will hopefully help us better understand youth risk and protective behaviors as they related to student problems and academic success. A permission slip will be sent home with all students giving their parents the opportunity to not allow their child to take the anonymous survey if they choose.
This questionnaire asks about:
- personal use of alcohol and other drugs, perception of risks, where accessed, consequences of use, approval or disapproval of use
- students' feelings about their school experience
- family and personal characteristics
- family communication about substance use
- feeling about self and moods
- student health behaviors – food intake, exercise, height and weight
- We wrapped up a couple more of our service projects during the month of March.
- Mr. Knowles’ Physical Education Classes raised over $1600 dollars for the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart program.
- Our school raised $808.91 through a Penny Drive for the Hancock County Red Cross.
- All 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students who meet their Accelerated Reader goals will be able to attend a Burlington Bees game on Tuesday, April 24th at 11:00am.
- We will have our Grandparent Night Open House on Monday, April 23rd. Our PTO will run a book fair along with this from 5:00-6:00.
